The Academic Decathlon team is made up of students with all grade points. Students study materials in the theme (set by the USAD organization) for the year and compete in February with other schools in the region.  Students take written exams in Art, Social Science, Language and Literature, Math, Economics, Music, and a Super Quiz.  They are also judged on a prepared  speech and an interview. Team and individual awards are earned from  their test and
judged scores.

Tipton's  AcDec Team has qualified for the State Competition nine times in the past 15 years.
